We’ve recently had the pleasure of working with a chap who owns a shed load of really cool domain names. he has got us involved to help him develop some of the domain
names so that they are not going to waste. We’ve already done the UK Top 40 website, and that is going really well so far – and we’ve now moved on to some other stuff that is – how can i put it – not the kinda stuff we would normally get involved in!
A week or so ago we put a very basic wordpress site on MaternityPay.co.uk as we wanted to test the water with a basic site and an old domain name. Its currently page 3 on Google for Maternity Pay – with NO SEO whatsoever! This means that once we put a proper website on there we should hit page one no problems.
Yesterday i launched the first version of our very first affiliate store on MaternityWear.co.uk – Its using a really cool system from AffiliateWindow, called ShopWindow and after some chopping and styling i managed to get it to show only the maternity wear section, and nothing else.
Its REALLY easy to install, and there are thousands of affiliates to chose from so you can tailor it to your needs very easily.
If you are interested in joining the AffiliateWindow platform, then click here – or give us a call on 01623 650 333 and we can arrange/set it up for you and build the site for it to go on.
Our clients often come to us with websites they have had developed somewhere else – sometimes the websites are awesome, made well, with the right elements taken into consideration to enable them to succeed in the SERP’s – but unfortunately, most of the time they are garbage.
We’ve had some site in particular that as we delve further and further into the really bad coding, we are finding things that make the team here at dijitul physically sick.
For starters, they had themselves hard coded into it so that they were receiving any emails that were sent through the contact form on the site, and were being notified every time there was an order placed!
We found out yesterday that the cheeky buggers also hard coded themselves an admin account so that they can log in and check stuff whenever they want, too.
I guess when you don’t know much about the internet and things like online shops – you don’t know what to look for or ask for when you have one built. Just be wary – and if you are spending a lot of money having something developed then make sure you go with a reputable company who will speak to you in plain English.
Also, unless you truly need to – stay away from customised shopping cart platforms – as they might tick all the boxes now, but in 6 month/1 year down the line they will need changing/updating and it costs a lot of money. Pre-made software is usually modular, so things can be added and removed fairly easily.
Monday morning we came into the office to a flood of online order notifications. As we manage a number of eCommerce websites for our clients we tend to get copied in on the orders and what a weekend it has been!
Over the past few months we have been working closely with a number of Nottinghamshire based companies who have ventured into the online shopping world and are starting to reap the rewards for being ranked highly on Google not to mention seeing a huge increase in turnover and enquiries.
We are all hoping that this is the start of a good online shopping season and are preparing our customers for a busy year ahead. If you are expecting a sudden surge in sales then we strongly recommend that you take note of the following points:
1. Do you have enough bandwidth to deal with an increase in visitors?
2. Do you have sufficient stock to cater for an increase in orders?
3. Are the search engine optimisation elements on your website correct?
4. Have you looked into using Online Chat as some people who shop online cannot always pick up the phone and prefer to email/chat so you could increase your sales just by having an online chat system installed on your website.
5. Last but not least, always keep an eye on your competitors website and see if anything they are doing you could do better!
If you are already online and have an eCommerce website then we wish you the best of luck for the 2010 season. If you are yet to try online shopping for your business and would like more information please visit the eCommerce Nottingham section of our website.
