With internet usages, e-commerce sales and social networking at an all time high its no surprise that the world of marketing is vastly changing all the while. SEO, Viral video and social media marketing should now all be high priority to any business looking to promote itself. Whilst they may still be around, it is a far cry from the marketing world of 20 years ago, where print media was still dominant force.

The marketing world is continuing to evolve at a rapid pace every day, to incorporate new and exciting ways in which brand awareness can be increased and spread around the world, and Google’s newest announcement does nothing to buck this trend. A report has claimed that following last years unsuccessful attempts by Google to sign up TV broadcasters content to their site, Google are going to invest $100m dollars into Youtube to create 20 ‘channels’ of original, showing exclusive new programmes of content every week.

This is not televisions first ‘venture’ onto the internet, with formats such as iPlayer and 4OD already available, however, a Google backed television like empire on the internet could well see one of the biggest marketing changes in history…but can even Google topple the television?

It was revealed last year that social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter had become the most popular internet pastime in the world. As can be expected, this has continued to grow and following the news that reportedly half of the UK are signed up to Facebook, it has been revealed that social media sites are now the most popular ‘genre’ of website used in the UK, overtaking previous leaders, entertainment websites such as sky sports, ITV Player, and the BBC iPlayer.

Social networking websites received around 2.4billion visits in January 2011, accounting for some 12.4% of all internet usage in the country. The average time spent on each social networking site per visit was 22 minutes.

Facebook is unsurprisingly the one which attracts the most visitors, whilst entertainment/social media crossover youtube came in second and and Twitter third.

These new statistics may point to the fact that social networking sites are increasingly incorporating entertainment aspects in to their sites, being able to watch videos on Facebook, and Youtube increasingly adding to its huge collection of videos.

Either way, social networking seems to be consuming another victim, and its pretty clear these days, if you aren’t involved in it, then you are missing out.

Following the purchase of several other companies to widen their market grip, Google have struck once again, this time purchasing an aid for one of their more established children.

Irish company ‘Green Parrot Pictures’ who specialise in image processing to improve things such as camera sharpness and shake, have been purchased so as to use their technology on the Google owned video sharing website Youtube.

Green Parrot’s technology, which has been used in some Hollywood action films such as X-Men and Spiderman is reportedly going to be used on all youtube videos, whilst they are being uploaded, so that they all become much crisper and clearer.

This sounds like good news all round – except for youtubes competitors – as it could make the youtube video viewing experience much clearer and more enjoyable, and it also further presses a case for viral marketing.

With technology in place to improve videos during upload, it means more and more companies can go down the route of viral marketing – making a video to advertise your business – as it will be in even clearer definition, and going out to millions of people.

That’s right, its no longer pornography, or Google search traffic that tops the charts when it comes to time spent online, social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter have now overtaken these things and has become the number 1 hit online.

Search engines such as Google and yahoo made up 11.33% of internet visits last month (may 2010) whereas social networks accounted for 11.88% – so although their lead isn’t too great – winning is winning!

The growth of social media (IMO) can be put down to one thing – smart phones! Since Facebook and twitter have been made available through iPhones, Blackberrys and the rest of the Smartphone family, anyone who is anyone can get involved in social media.

When we speak to some of our customers about social media, they reply with talk of it being something “their kids use” and that they don’t think its their cup of tea. Well, that’s where you are wrong – even if you are not a fan of tea, you should really sample a cup of the social media blend, its free, direct, and very easy to use.

Are you making the best use of Social Networks? Has your business got a presence on Social Networks?

We can help with social media training and optimisation – just give dijitul media a call on 01623 650 333 and we’ll tell you how Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and the other Social Networks can help you get more exposure.

You may think that YouTube is the place where everyone uploads videos of their mate’s falling over or the site where you can see the funniest pets in the world, well, for some that’s just how it is. Looking at YouTube from another angle is not something that many people do until it hits them in the face.

Imagine this, you make a funny 30 second clip, something so funny that people cannot help themselves but to share with friends and spread around the web showing all the other web users how cool this video is, some even like the joys of seeing other people laugh knowing that they found the video first. As crazy as that might sound there is actually some real logic behind it.

Can you remember the “Charlie bit me” video on YouTube? For those who don’t here it is.

Finished watching? Wondering what this has to do with your business?

Well, there is not really an answer as the relevance this video has to your business is none. However, what the video does have is an audience and a pretty huge one at that. From 22 May 2007 that video alone has had over 150 million views, yes 150 MILLION. In addition to this, the parents who shot the video now have their own YouTube channel, have been on Richard and Judy, made national news and will likely reap more benefits from this.

Now imagine using the same concept to promote your business, can you see how it could work?

If not, give us a call and lets get explain things in a bit more detail.
